ONEONTA, NY- The women's tennis team opened its 2011 season with a win as they defeated Sage College 7-2 on Saturday morning.
The Hawks swept in the doubles matches. Courtney Hinds (Montrose, PA/Montrose) and Megan Henson (Hinesburg, VT/Champlain Valley Union) won in first flight 8-4 over Isabella Pericone and Danielle Sidotti. Kim Willet (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) won in second doubles 8-2 over Octavia Gales and Brianna Bixler. In third doubles, Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) won 8-3 over Amy Delaney and Mary Kate Hayward.
In singles, the Hawks won all but two matches. Percione defeated Hinds in first singles 6-4, 6-1. Willet got her first collegiate singles victory as she won over Bixler 6-1, 6-1. Henson won in her match 7-5, 6-3 over Giles. Schepesi was defeated in her first singles match 6-3, 6-3 by Sidotti. Michels and Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) were perfect in their matches as they both won 6-0, 6-0 over
Hayward and Alison Argust.
Hartwick begins Empire 8 play on Thursday as they go against Ithaca at 4 pm.
