Hartwick College Women’s Tennis Defeats Utica

ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick women's tennis team had no trouble with visiting Utica as they defeated the Pioneers 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon. 'Wick improves to 2-2 on the season while Utica falls to 0-5.
It is the Hawks first sweep of the season and the fifth straight 9-0 decision over Utica.

The closest match of the day was in first doubles. Courtney Hinds (Montrose, PA/Montrose) and Kim Willet (Suffield, CT/Suffield) battled against Jen Persio and Cailee McWilliams. Hinds and Willet had a 7-2 lead but the Utica duo battled back to win four straight games. Hinds and Willet would prevail in the end and come away with the 8-6 victory. 

The pairs of Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) and Britni Stasiuk (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) in second doubles and Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) in third doubles both prevailed 8-0 in their matches.

In singles action, Hinds, Schepisi, and Stasiuk all picked up their first wins of the season. Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) improves to 3-0 on the year. Michels is 3-1 and Willet evens her record at 2-2.

Hartwick returns to the courts on Monday when they go against Union in Schenectady at 4:00 p.m.
