ONEONTA, NY- The host Oneonta State women's tennis tennis team swept all three of its doubles matches and won four of six singles matches to defeat the Hartwick women's team 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves Oneonta's record to 6-3 while Hartwick falls to 5-6.
Despite trailing 3-0 after doubles play, the Hawks fought back in singles.
Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) won at first singles over Michelle Spencer 6-1, 6-1. Both fifth and sixth singles went to a super tie-breaker.
Kristen Napolitano (Mt Sinai, NY/Mt Sinai) was defeated by Abigail Smith 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in fifth flight.
Ruth Jones (Ossining, NY/Ossining) won her fifth singles match in a row with a 6-0, 1-6, 11-9 victory over Kelly Gochan in sixth flight.
Hartwick will conclude its regular season with a match against Empire 8 rival Stevens in Hoboken, NJ on Sunday. The first match will begin at 1 p.m.
