MORRISTOWN, NJ- The Hartwick women's tennis team concluded regular season play with an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Stevens on Sunday afternoon at the Center Court Tennis Club. The Hawks' record falls to 5-7 overall and 4-3 in the Empire 8. The Ducks improve to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the Empire 8.
Stevens took all of the doubles matches. The closest match came in second doubles where
Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) and
Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) lost by the score of 8-5 to Danielle Stewart and Julia Guignard.
The lone victory for Hartwick came in sixth singles.
Ruth Jones (Ossining,NY/ Ossining) won her sixth straight singles match and second in a row in a super-tiebreaker with a 6-0, 4-6, 10-7 win over Nathalie Tran.
Hartwick has clinched the fourth seed for the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament. Hartwick will face top-seeded Ithaca in the semi-finals on October 20 at a time to be announced.
