ONEONTA, NY- Four Hawk starters scored in double figures as the men's basketball team led from start to finish to easily defeat the visiting Wells Express 94-61 on Sunday afternoon at Lambros Arena. With the win, Hartwick evens its record at 2-2 while the Express fall to 2-2.

Kyle Bradley (Cornwall, NY/Mansfield University) and Jared Suderley (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) both scored 20 points each to lead the Hawks. Bradley shot 7-for-11 from the floor and added eight rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. Suderley was 10-for-17 in field goals and chipped in nine boards, two blocks, and two steals.

Aaron Laing (Laurens, NY/Laurens) was 6-of-7 from the floor for 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. Anthony Keane (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting with three rebounds and three assists.

Jordan Bishop and Jonathan Bonds led the Express with 10 points apiece. The two combined to shoot 10-of-17 and grab nine rebounds.

“The win today was a great team effort and we really started getting the ball inside and getting good looks and we accomplished that today,” said head coach Todd McGuinness following the game.

The game was never in doubt as the Hawks led from the opening basket. Hartwick jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Bishop would score Wells' first basket. The Hawks would go on to score eight straight points to open up a 16-4 lead with 15:14 showing on the clock. That advantage would grow to as many as 25 points as 'Wick would close out the first half on a 13-3 run to lead 50-25 at the half.

The Hawks continued to pour on the offense in the second half.  Layups by Laing, Suderley, and Bradley increased the Hartwick lead to 58-27 at 18:12. Hartwick would lead by as much as 37 points late in the game as the starters sat for most of the half.

Hartwick shot a season-high 60% (39-of-65) from the floor and converted nearly 43% (6-of-14) of its three-point shots compared to 41.4% (24-of-58) for Wells from the floor and 35.7% (5-of-14) from beyond the three-point arc.

The Hawks dominated on the glass with 41 rebounds compared to 25 boards from the Express. Hartwick established a presence in the paint with a 58-38 advantage. 'Wick made the best of 16 Express turnovers as it scored 21 points off of them and also led 20-6 in second-chance points.

“Kyle, Jared, and Aaron did a good job of going in the paint and rebounding the basketball,” remarked McGuinness. “Christian Laputka and Anthony both had good all-around games.”

Hartwick will next head down the hill to face cross-city rival Oneonta State on Wednesday night. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
