LEWISBURG, PA - The Hartwick women's water polo team continued its winning streak as for the second day in a row they won two matches at the Bison Invite hosted by Bucknell University on Sunday. The Hawks dominated Siena in the first game 19-5 and beat the host Bisons 15-9 in the second game. Hartwick is now 9-3 on the season and have won their last seven games.
Against the Saints, Kamila Zakirova (Almaty, Kazakhstan), Sami Capparelli (Miami FL), Laura Kuzma (Saline, MI), Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa), and Kanani Mazzone (Kapolei, HI) scored twice for Hartwick. Megan Clampitt (Barrington, IL), Cayley Tonkin (Cape Town, South Africa), Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand), Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA), Alyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec), Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa), Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec), Kylie Traube (Johannesburg, South Africa), and Lyndsy Knapp (Soquel, CA) all had one goal each.
The game was never in doubt as Hartwick was up 11-0 early in the third quarter. The Saints would finally get on the board at 5:53 of the third but never seriously threatened the Hartwick lead.
Against the Bisons in the evening match, Jemma Dendy Young scored five goals to lead 'Wick. Bass had four goals. Freeborn scored three times. Caparelli, Analytis and Shannon Leonard (Ponte Claire, Quebec) all had one goal apiece.
The Hawks began the game scoring the first two goals to go up 2-0 before Bucknell would make it a 2-1 contest. Hartwick then went on a four-goal burst as they would go ahead 6-1. The Bisons added their second goal of the game with just 10 seconds remaining in the quarter.
The teams traded goals back and forth in the second as Hartwick would still maintain their four-goal lead. In the third, Hartwick received goals from Jemma Dendy Young and Bass to forge ahead 10-4. The teams would again trade goals and the Hawks led 12-6 after three quarters of play.
The Bisons scored first in the fourth quarter to reduce the Hawk lead to 12-7 but Hartwick would score three straight times to go ahead 15-7 with 5:34 left in the game. Bucknell would add two more score but it was not enough as the Hawks came away with the victory.
Hartwick will return home to host Brown University Friday night at 8 p.m. in Moyer Pool.
