Water Polo Wins 8th Straight With 21-13 Victory Over Brown

ONEONTA, NY - Senior Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec) and junior Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand) each scored four goals apiece to lead Hartwick water polo to its 10th victory of the season on Friday night at Moyer Pool. The Hawks, who have now won eight straight games, defeated Brown University 21-13. It marks the most goals scored by the Hawks this season.

Hartwick jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening four and a half minutes of the game. Freeborn tallied twice for 'Wick in the span. The Bears cut the lead to one on Madison Pepper's third goal of the period but the Hawks extended their advantage in the final minute on goals from Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) and Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA).

After the Bears scored 20 seconds into the second quarter, the Hawks took control, countering with four of the half's final goals. Freeborn, Allison Kosich (Stockton, CA), Bass, and Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec) found the net for Hartwick and the hosts led 10-5 at intermission.

The Hawks began to pull away in the third quarter as they scored six of nine goals. Five different players tallied in the quarter with Bass scoring twice and Hartwick led by eight entering the final quarter.

Hartwick's lead got as large as nine on three occasions. Once again, five Hawks made it into the scoring column as they cruised in the final period for the eight-goal win.

Analytis scored three times to add to the eight combined goals from Freeborn and Bass. Shannon Leonard (Pointe Claire, Quebec) and Natalie Seabourn (Auckland, New Zealand) scored for 'Wick in the third quarter. Lily Gall (Portland, OR), Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL), Megan Clampitt (Barrington, IL), Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa), and Laura Kuzma (Saline, MI) each scored in the fourth.

Pepper finished the day with six goals for the Bears. Katharine Booher and Kate Woods each had two scores.

Guia Corlini (Camoglia, Italy) and Haley Cox (El Segundo, CA) split time in the Hartwick cage. Corlini got the start, playing in the first and third quarters. She made one save. Cox played in the second and fourth quarters and made three saves. Sarah Shin made eight stops for Brown (5-2).

Hartwick plays three games tomorrow at RPI's Robison Pool. The Hawks play #11 Indiana at 9 a.m., Marist at 11:30 a.m., and #14 Maryland at 3:30 p.m.
