NEWBURGH, NY- Junior attack
Harry Hughes (Holtsville, NY) scored six goals to lead the Hartwick men's lacrosse team to a season-opening 14-3 win over Mount St. Mary on Tuesday afternoon. Hughes, who set the College record for goals in a season last year with 62, passed Pat McCormack '07 for ninth in the Hartwick record books. He is just two shy from the 100-goal mark for his career.

Phil Schaefer (Holbrook, NY) added two goals and assisted on another for the Hawks. Seniors

Hughes scored his first goal of the day at 11:54 of the first quarter to put the Hawks on top 1-0. The Knights would tie the game with exactly six minutes left in the first but Hartwick would dominate the game from that point on as it would score 12 unanswered goals and go ahead 13-1 in the fourth quarter.
The Hawks outshot the Knights 44-13. Hartwick also led in groundballs 54-44.
Freshman
Matthew Galvin (Medway, MA) picked up his first career win in goal as he recorded two saves in 51:51 minutes of playing time. Sophomore
Nick Traino (North Andover, MA) relieved him and played 7:12 and recorded one save. Junior
Carl Lengel (Lynbrook, NY) was between the pipes for 57 seconds but did not record a save.
Schaefer picked up seven groundballs to lead the team. He also added three caused turnovers.
