HILTON HEAD, SC – Division II Erskine College was too much for Hartwick College in the Hawks' 2012 opener at Hilton Head Island Tennis and Beach Resort in Hilton Head, SC on Sunday. The Flying Fleet secured a 9-0 victory, surrendering only eight games.
             
Hartwick senior Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) and freshman Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson Central) dropped an 8-3 decision to Erskine's top doubles pair of Angelo Ciarrocchi and Vincent Chauvette.    
           
In singles, Redder was able to secure three games from Erskine's Jack West in the third flight. West came away with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
           
Bobby Amberson (Raeford, NC/Middletown HS) won one game in second singles versus Chauvette. Freshman Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore HS) also won a game in the fourth spot in his match against James Hoatson.
           
Hartwick plays its first Division III opponent on Monday in Hilton Head. The Hawks play nationally 30^th ranked DePauw University at 4 p.m.
