– Hartwick closed its South Carolina trip with a 9-0 defeat against Oberlin College on Wednesday morning in Hilton Head. The Hawks will return to campus with an 0-3 record against very solid opposition. The Yeomans improve to 7-7 on the season.
           
Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) took his first singles match to a final set. Logan Chun took the first set by a count of 6-4 but Boyd took six of eight games in the second set to even the count at 1-1. In the super tie-breaker to 10 points, Chun emerged with the victory, 10-5.
           
Freshman Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota HS) won five games for the Hawks in sixth singles. He fell to Oberlin's Shahab Raza, 6-2, 6-3.
           
In doubles action, Boyd and Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson Central) came close to a win in the first flight. The duo fell just two games short of Oberlin's top doubles pair of Charlie Marks and Soren Zeliger, by a final score of 9-7.
           
Hartwick next plays on April 4 back in the New York State. The Hawks open their Empire 8 Conference schedule at home against Utica beginning at 4 p.m.
