LOS ANGELES, CA- The #19 ranked Hartwick women's water polo team continued its West Coast trip with a game against the #3 ranked University of Southern California Trojans and were defeated by the score of 19-5 on Wednesday.
Kamila Zakirova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and
Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand) both scored twice to lead Hartwick.
Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) contributed one goal.
Haley Cox (El Segundo, CA) had 13 saves in goal for the Hawks.
The Trojans scored the game's first two goals in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawks would trim that lead as Dendy Young's score put Hartwick on the board to make it a 2-1 game. USC scored twice more in the quarter to go up 4-1.
The Trojans would start to pull away in the second quarter as they would score five more times to go up 9-1 at halftime. The hosts were up 11-1 until Zakirova scored to make it a 11-2 game. USC would go on to score eight of the game's final 11 goals for the 19-5 final score.
'Wick returns to action on Saturday when it makes a return trip to Bakersfield for the Cal Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational III. The Hawks will face Cal State Bernardino at 9:45 a.m. and then go against Colorado State in the afternoon at 3:15 p.m.
