Men’s Tennis Stopped at Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ – Host Stevens Institute of Technology swept Hartwick 9-0 in men's tennis on Sunday in Hoboken. The Hawks fall to 2-9 overall and close out their conference schedule with a 2-5 mark. The Ducks, the defending Empire 8 champions, improve to 9-5 and finish the league slate unbeaten at 7-0.
           
Senior Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) and junior Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie HS) were narrowly beaten in first doubles. The duo fell just short of its sixth win of the year, 8-6, against Chris Rosensteel and Shota Tasaki.
           
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson Central) fell in a super tie-breaker in the sixth singles flight. After dropping the first set, 6-0, he battled back against Brian Liebeskind 7-6 (7-3) in the second. Liebeskind outscored Redder 10-8 in the deciding set for the win.
           
Boyd took seven games from Rosensteel in first singles. He fell by a final count of 7-5, 6-2.
           
Hartwick concludes its season on Wednesday at Oneonta State.
