ONEONTA, NY- The women's tennis team won five of six singles matches to come away with a 6-3 victory over Alfred on Saturday afternoon at the Hartwick Courts. The Hawks even their record at 2-2 and are 2-0 in the Empire 8 while Alfred falls to 4-3 and 1-2 in the Empire 8.
The Hawks trailed 2-1 after doubles play. The duo of
Megan Henson (Hinesburg, VT/Champlain Valley Union) and
Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) fell 9-7 to Emma Jackson and Brennan Ferguson.
Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and
Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) won over Catherine Spencer and Emily Eisenberg 8-1.
Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY Mt Sinai) and
Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) lost a close decision to Melissa Boyer and Kaitlin Flaherty 8-5.
Hartwick won the first four flights in singles competition. Henson battled back against Jackson to win in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Schepisi prevailed over Ferguson 7-5, 7-5. Michels improved to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Flaherty. Clark also moved to 3-1 in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Spencer.
Lysandra Tetreault (Saugerties,NY/Saugerties) won the first singles match of her career 6-2, 6-1 against Devyn Devantier.
The Hawks return to their home court tomorrow afternoon when they host St. John Fisher at 1 p.m.
