Sage Slips Past Women’s Tennis

Kristen Napolitano won in both her singles and doubles matches
TROY, NY- The Hartwick women's tennis team opened its 2012 season on the road against the Sage Colleges. After trailing in doubles play, the Hawks rallied in singles but fell short in the end as they lost 5-4.

The lone victory in doubles competition went to the duo of Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt Sinai) and Ruth Jones (Ossining, NY/Ossining). They defeated Laura Bendall and Dana Fowler 8-0 in third doubles.

Megan Henson (Hinesburg, VT/Champlain Valley Union) and Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) fell to Mackenzie Riley and Isabella Pericone in first doubles 8-5. Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY) and Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) lost to Kristen Ackerman and Mary Kate Heyward 8-3 in second doubles.

Michels, Clark, and Napolitano all won their singles matches. Michels defeated Hayward 6-0, 6-0 in fourth singles. Clark was a winner over Bendall in fifth singles 6-0, 6-0. Napolitano took the victory over Fowler in sixth singles 6-0, 6-4.

The Hawks will host Elmira in an Empire 8 match this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Hartwick Courts.
