Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota HS) won the first singles match of his college career and the doubles team of
Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie HS) and
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson Central) was also victorious on Sunday, but the Hartwick men's tennis team fell short against Alfred, 7-2.
Coppola defeated Lucas Krenzer in fifth singles. He took the match in straight sets by a count of 6-2, 6-1.
Dumas and Redder disposed of Alfred's Connor Doud and Peter Benoit in first doubles, 8-3. The duo has now won two straight conferences matches and is 3-2 on the year.
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore HS) and
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) nearly gave the Hawks a third win on the day at second doubles. They dropped a tight 8-6 decision to Alfred's Michael Graham and Trenton Berardi.
The Hawks will look for their first win of the campaign this week. They host Union in a non-conference match on Wednesday and host Stevens in an Empire 8 contest on Sunday.
