Late Indiana Goal Sinks #16 Hartwick in CWPA Western Division Championship Game

Jemma Dendy Young tied the match at 11-11 with 38 seconds left to play.
GENEVA, OH- Indiana's Shae Fournier broke an 11-11 tie with four seconds remaining as the #15 Hoosiers came away with a 12-11 win over #16 Hartwick in the CWPA Western Division Championship held at the SPIRE Institute. The Hawks had rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the game with 38 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter.

Indiana struck first in the contest to take the early 1-0 but the Hawks quickly responded to knot the game at a goal apiece. The Hoosiers would go on a 4-1 run the rest of the frame to lead 5-2 after the first quarter.

'Wick came back in the second quarter with two scores and shut down the Hoosier offense to trail 5-4 at halftime. Early in the third quarter, the Hawks tied it up at 5-5. Indiana would regain the lead but again the Hawks would tie up the game. The Hoosiers pushed ahead 9-6 before 'Wick added a score before the end of the quarter to trail 9-7.

In the final stanza, the two teams traded goals and the Hoosiers still had a two-goal lead, 11-9, with 3:23 remaining to play. Hartwick scored with 2:25 left and then netted the equalizer later when Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) scored with 38 seconds left to play. The contest would not stay tied for long as Fournier capitalized on the power play to lift Indiana to the win.

Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) led the Hawks with four goals. Dendy Young, Allison Kosich (Stockton, CA), Kamila Zakirova (Almaty, Kazakhstan), Britt Tait (Kairong, Australia), Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand), Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA), and Katie Ermakova (Columbia, MD) all scored once.
