LOUDONVILLE, NY- The women's water polo team broke open a close contest with a 10-0 run midway through the second half to cruise to victory against Siena 19-7 on Tuesday night. The win gives the Hawks a record of 23-9 while the Saints fall to 7-12 on the season.
 
In the first quarter, it was the Saints who struck first with a goal just 27 seconds into the contest. The Hawks were undeterred as they scored six straight times in the quarter to move ahead 6-1.
 
It was 7-1 Hartwick 50 seconds into the second frame on a goal from Logan Reed (Houston, TX). Siena ended the Hartwick run with a score at 5:15. After another 'Wick goal, two more Saints scores made it 8-4 Hawks before Cayley Tonkin (Cape Town, South Africa) scored with 14 seconds remaining in the quarter to push Hartwick ahead 9-4 at halftime.
 
The Saints came out firing in the third quarter with two goals to narrow the Hawk lead to just 9-6 with 5:50 remaining in the period. That would be as close as Siena would get as the Hawks would close out the contest on a 10-1 run to sail to the victory. The Saints were held scoreless for over 14 minutes of game time until finally scoring with just over five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
 
On the night, Allison Kosich (Stockton, CA), Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand), Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) and Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) all netted hat tricks.  Katie Ermakova (Columbia, MD) added a pair of scores. Britt Tait (Kairong, Australia), Lilly Gall (Portland, OR), Cayley Tonkin (Cape Town, South Africa), Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA), and Reed all tallied one score each.
 
The Saints were led by Jacquelyn Verdon's three scores. Lea Allen added two goals. Jasmine Carillo and Stephanie Bundas both scored once.
 
Hartwick's next match is this Friday at the Brown Invitational. The Hawks will play the host Bears at 8 p.m.
