ONEONTA, NY – Senior
Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie HS) earned his second singles victory of the season but the Hartwick men's tennis team fell at home 8-1 to Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday. The Hawks slip to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the Empire 8. The Ducks improve to 11-7 and 5-0.
Dumas scored a win in three sets at the top flight, defeating Stevens' number one Tyler Tisdale. Dumas dropped the first set, 6-2, but battled back to take the second set in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-4). In the super tie break, Dumas prevailed 10-7 over Tisdale to take the victory.
In doubles action, Dumas and
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson Central) fell to Tisdale and Derek Smith, 8-4 in the top flight.
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore HS) and
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) fought valiantly in second doubles as they won six games against Jacob Thigpen and Brian Liebeskind. The Ducks' duo, however, would take the match 8-6.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday, April 25. The Hawks host Oneonta State at 4 p.m.
