Hartwick Water Polo Moves On To CWPA Eastern Semifinals With 20-6 Win Over Harvard

Jemma Dendy Young scored five goals and was named the Player of the Game.
ANN ARBOR, MI- Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) scored five goals and was one of nine Hartwick players to score as the Hawk water polo team cruised to a 20-6 victory over Harvard in the quarterfinals of the CWPA Eastern Championships. The match was held at the University of Michigan's Canham Natatorium.

Dendy Young was named the Player of the Game following the conclusion of the contest. Kylie Traube (Johannesburg, South Africa), Kamila Zakirova (Almaty, Kazakhstan), and Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) all had hat tricks. Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA) added two goals. Allison Kosich (Stockton, CA), Cayley Tonkin (Cape Town, South Africa), Sasha Freeborn Auckland, New Zealand), and Lilly Gall (Portland, OR) contributed one goal each. Michaela Davies (Cronulla, Australia) and Haley Cox (El Segundo, CA) combined for 18 saves in the cage.

The Crimson were led by Kalina Gribb's two goals. Yoshi Anderjens, Charlotte Hendrix, Shayna Price, and Jelena Cyr all had single scores. Ariel Dukes stopped four shots in goal.

Dendy Young got the Hawks going in the first quarter when she scored off an assist from Martinez. Martinez then scored a goal of her own to put the Hawks ahead 2-0. It was 7-2 Hartwick after one quarter of play as Dendy Young had three goals in the period.

In the second frame, Dendy Young scored off a pass from Zakirova to give the Hawks a 9-2 lead with 4:58 left on the clock.  After a Harvard goal made it 9-3, the Hawks scored once as the score stood 10-3 at halftime. 'Wick would outscore the Crimson 10-3 in the second half to claim the win.

The Hawks advance to the semifinals where they will face the #11 Princeton Tigers. The Tigers defeated George Washington 13-6 earlier in the day.

The Hawks and Tigers last met on February 17 at the Bucknell Tournament. Princeton came away with a narrow 8-7 victory.
