PROVIDENCE, RI- The Hartwick water polo team played the first of four matches of the weekend on Friday night at the Bruno Invitational hosted by Brown University. The Hawks raced out to an 8-0 lead and won easily over the host Bears, 15-6.
'Wick led 5-0 after the first quarter. It was 8-0 Hartwick at 3:38 of the second quarter when
Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) scored her first goal of the game. The Bears finally got on the board 25 seconds later on Kate Woods' first score of the night. The teams would exchange goals with the score standing at 9-2 in favor of the Hawks at halftime.
The two squads scored once each in the third frame as Hartwick maintained its seven-goal lead. 'Wick would outscore the Bears 5-3 in the final quarter with the Hawks scoring the game's final three goals to put away Brown.
Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) scored four times to lead Hartwick.
Lara and
Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) both contributed two goals each.

The Bears were led by Woods' four goals. Emily McNamara and Madison Pepper both scored once.
Hartwick resumes action on Saturday with a key matchup against CWPA rival #15 Michigan at 11 a.m. The Hawks wrap up the day with a 5:30 p.m. match versus #3 Arizona State. The two teams last met on March 25 in Tempe where the Sun Devils came out with a 12-3 victory.
