PROVIDENCE, RI- The Hartwick water polo team wrapped up competition at the Brown Invitational against CSU Bakersfield on Sunday at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Hawks led from start to finish as they defeated the Roadrunners 14-8.
Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) and
Kamila Zakirova (Almaty, Kazakhstan) both had hat tricks to lead Hartwick.
Allison Kosich (Stockton, CA),
Katie Ermakova (Columbia, MD), and
Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) all scored a pair of goals.
Britt Tait (Kairong, Australia) and
Logan Reed (Houston, TX) scored one goal apiece.
The Roadrunners were led by Sam Shead who scored four times. Amanda Nesbitt contributed two goals. Jessica Browning and Nicki De Leon both chipped in one goal each.
Hartwick scored first in the game and led 5-1 after the first quarter. The Roadrunners would rally in the second frame as they outscored the Hawks 3-2 in the period and trailed 7-4 at halftime.
Dendy Young got the hat trick at 5:49 of the third quarter to increase the 'Wick lead to 8-4. The Roadrunners tacked on a score with 3:11 remaining in the stanza to make it 8-5. It would be as close as CSUB could get as the Hawks went on a 6-3 run to close out the Roadrunners.
Next up for Hartwick are the Western Division Championships which will be held next weekend at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH. The Hawks are the #1 seed and will face #5 seed Notre Dame College at 10 a.m. followed by a 4 p.m. contest with #4 seed Gannon University.
