ALFRED, NY- The Hartwick women's tennis team picked up its first Empire 8 win of the season as it cruised 9-0 over Alfred on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks even their record at 2-2 while the Saxons fall to 1-4.
The Hawks dropped only one set all day. The duo of
Ruthie Jones (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and
Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) picked up their first win of the season in first doubles with an 8-5 victory over Brennan Ferguson and Emily Eisenberger.
Jones also picked up her first win in first singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ferguson.
Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) needed an extra set in the third flight but came out with a 6-2, 6-7, 7-4 victory against Eisenberg.
Schepisi,
Kristen Napolitano Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai), and
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) all moved to 3-1 on the year with wins in second, fourth, and fifth singles. Schepisi prevailed 6-2, 6-2 over Rachel Cook, Napolitano was victorious against Elexandra Smith, 6-3, 6-1, and O'Brien won over Bethany Dickerson, 6-0, 6-0.
Hartwick returns to the court tomorrow when they face St. John Fisher. First matches begin at 10 a.m.
