Women’s Tennis Drops Tough Decision to St. John Fisher

Nicole Schepisi improve to 4-1 in singles play with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Fisher's Sania Zaki.
PITTSFORD, NY- The women's tennis team played a hard fought match with Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher but the host Cardinals took four of six singles matches including two tiebreakers to pull out a 5-4 win over the Hawks on Sunday morning. The match was held at the Mendon Racquet Club.

Hartwick had a 2-1 lead after the conclusion of doubles play. Ruthie Jones (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) won in first doubles 8-4 over the duo of Katie Paier and Sania Zaki. In third doubles, Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) moved to 4-1 with a victory over Rosalie O'Brien and Alissa Cornacchia.

In singles play, Schepisi improved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Zaki. O'Brien won her match over Rosalie O'Brien 6-4, 7-5.

Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) forced a tie-breaking set against Abbey Buscaglia but fell 6-1, 6-7, 5-7 in the third flight. Noyes' match with Catie Nonenmacher also went to three sets where Noyes came up short 5-7, 7-5, 3-6.

The Hawks will next face Union on Wednesday in Schenectady. The first matches will begin at 4 p.m.
