Women’s Tennis Suffers Setback to Elmira

PINE VALLEY, NY- The Hartwick women's tennis team squared off against Empire 8 rival Elmira on Sunday afternoon and fell to the Soaring Eagles 8-1. The Hawks drop to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Empire 8. Elmira improves to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the E8.

The Soaring Eagles took all three doubles matches. The closest decision came in third doubles where the pair of Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) was outlasted by Ellen Plowman and Kristi Chanda 9-7.

The lone win in singles play came in the fifth flight. Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) forced a super-tiebreaker with Steph Tock and came out with a 6-3, 6-7, (5-7), 10-4 victory.

Hartwick returns home to host Utica on Tuesday afternoon. The first matches will begin at 4 p.m.
