ONEONTA, NY- The women's tennis team played host to Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon on the Hartwick courts. After trailing 2-1 in doubles play, the Hawks picked up two wins in singles competition and nearly had a third victory but ultimately fell to the Ducks 6-3 to fall to 1-2 on the season. Stevens improves to 3-0.
The duo of
Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and
Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt.Sinai) defeated Lily Bruenjes and Arden Servido 8-6 in third doubles. It was the pair's first win of the year.
In singles play, Hartwick dropped decisions in the first three flights. The Hawks rallied in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles. Napolitano faced Elena Cocineva-Lenge in third singles and after dropping the first set 3-6, rallied to take the second set 6-2 and the third set in a super tie-breaker, 10-7.
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) won her first collegiate match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Arden Servido. Noyes went head-to-head with Jillian Marceau and after falling in the first set 6-2, she rallied to claim the second set 6-0 but ultimately fell in a super tie-breaker, 10-3.
Hartwick will travel to face Alfred next Saturday. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
