Hawks Drops Match to Elmira in E8 Opener

ELMIRA, NY – Hartwick men's tennis slipped to 0-4 overall on Tuesday at Elmira's Murray Athletic Center in the Empire 8 Conference opener for the Hawks. The host Soaring Eagles won all nine matches on the day. EC improves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
           
EC took all three doubles matches while only surrendering four games total in the three flights.
           
In singles play, Hartwick's Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) had a very close match in the top flight against Elmira's Pavle Vashakidze. Redder would drop the first set, 6-3, but he forced a second-set tie-breaker. Vashakidze, however, won the race to seven points, 7-4, to claim the victory.
           
In third singles, Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) lost in straight sets but was able to win seven games against Austin Mansell in his third singles match. Mansell would claim the win, 6-4, 6-3.
           
Hartwick men's tennis travels to Ithaca College on Saturday for a 12 p.m. match.
