’Wick Water Polo Knocks Off Michigan, 10-6

Michaela Davies stopped a career-high 19 shots in the cage.
ANN ARBOR, MI- Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) scored four goals and goalie Michaela Davies (Cronulla, Australia) blocked a career 19 shots in the cage as the #17 Hartwick water polo team defeated #18 Michigan 10-6 on Saturday night. The Hawks broke a 3-3 tie early in the third quarter and led for most of the second half to come away with the victory.
 
The Hawks got on the board first when Britt Tait (Kariong, Australia) scored on an exclusion goal with 6:08 remaining in first period. The Wolverines would knot the game up at 1-all on their own exclusion goal at 3:29. The Hawks got one back on Tait's second score of the period to lead 2-1 after one period of play.
 
It was 2-1 'Wick for most of the second quarter. It was a close battle that saw a total of three goals scored. Michigan scored once with 1:26 left to tie the game at 2-2 and then went ahead 3-2 with just 45 seconds to play. Hartwick would tie the game on Dendy Young's first goal of the contest with 23 seconds remaining.
 
The Hawks tallied goals from Lara and Jemma Dendy Young to move ahead 5-3 in the third stanza with 3:40 left to play. The Wolverines would knot the contest up with two scores within two minutes of each other with the second tally coming at the 36 second mark. 'Wick snuck in a score with four seconds left to go up 6-5.
 
In the final period, Hartwick began to put some distance between itself and Michigan with three straight goals to go up 9-5 with 3:50 to play. The Wolverines netted oen score with 2:28 left but the Hawks put the game away with Jemma Dendy Young's fourth tally with 1:21 left to play.
 
Katie Ermakova (Columbia, MD) netted a hat trick for the Hawks. Tait tacked on two scores. Lara Dendy Young had one goal.
 
Michigan received two goals from Presley Pender and Allison Skaggs. Audrey Pratt and Barbara both had one goal each.
 
The Hawks return to action tomorrow morning when they face #14 Indiana at 9 a.m. Hartwick will looked to exact some revenge on the Hoosiers after IU defeated the Hawks 13-9 last Saturday at Moyer Pool.
