#17 Hawks Fall to #14 Hoosiers; Defeat Falcons in CWPA Round Robin Play

ANN, ARBOR, MI- The Hartwick water polo team wrapped up its weekend in Michigan with two matches on Sunday. In the early game, the Hawks were tripped up by #14 Indiana, 12-6. 'Wick rebounded in its second game to defeat Notre Dame College 18-6. The win against the Falcons gives Hartwick 20 on the season and is the 13th straight year that the team has achieved 20 or more victories.
 
Against the Falcons, the Hawks led 9-0 with 3:52 remaining in the second quarter. NDC finally got on the board with its first goal of the game at 3:14. After Anniek Hendriks (Amersfoort, Netherlands) found the back of the cage to make it 10-1 in favor of 'Wick with 2:09 left in the period, the Falcons scored again with 41 seconds left to make the score 10-2 at the half.
 
It was all Hawks in the third frame as Hartwick scored eight straight times to surge ahead 18-2. The Falcons scored four times in the final period while holding 'Wick scoreless but the decision was already well in Hartwick's favor.
 
Ricci Ferigo (Auckland, New Zealand) and Katie Ermakova (Columbia, MD) both scored hat tricks to lead the Hawks. Hendriks, Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa), Katja Rocha (Miami, FL), and Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) all had two goals each. Lily Gall (Portland, OR), Stephanie El Safty (Sydney, Australia), Kylie Traube (Johannesburg, South Africa), and Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) chipped in one goal apiece.
 
The Falcons got two goals from Danielle Summers and Demi Barrett. Keala Fleming and Gina-Bella Mata'afa contributed one goal each.
 
In the Indiana game, the Hawks and Hoosiers were tied up early in the second quarter but IU would go on a 9-1 run spanning the second, third, and fourth periods to come out with the win. 'Wick got two goals from both Britt Tait (Kariong, Australia) and Jemma Dendy Young. Ferigo and Ermakova added one score each. The Hoosiers were led by Shae Fournier and Shelby Taylor's three goals. Summer Creighton, Ellie Stott, Meghan Lappan, Carson Nestler, Rebecca Gerrity, and Colleen McNaught all contributed on goal.
 
The Hoosiers open the contest with two goals to go ahead 2-0 but the Hawks responded with a pair of scores from Dendy Young to tie the game up at 2-2 with 2:05 showing on the clock. IU added its third score of the game at 1:05 to lead 3-2.
 
Tait's goal 39 seconds into the second stanza tied the contest up at 3-3. The Hoosiers moved ahead 8-3 with 1:05 left in the quarter after rattling off five scores. The Hawks halved the score with 47 ticks on the clock on Tait's second goal of the day.
 
Only two goals would be scored in the third quarter by Indiana as the Hoosiers' lead increased to 10-4. IU led by as much as 12-4 with 2:36 left in the final period before 'Wick tacked on two scores in the final 45 seconds.
