ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick lost a 9-0 decision to four-time defending Empire 8 champion Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. Despite the loss, the Hawks managed to take 13 games off the Ducks.
At first doubles,
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) and
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) won four games against the Ducks' top doubles team of Charles Drake and Michael Feldman, 8-4.
Both
Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota) and
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) each won three games in their respective flights. Coppola, playing at fourth singles, dropped a 6-3, 6-0 match to Stevens' Tyler Tisdale. Monastoque lost at fifth singles to Jacob Thigpen, 6-1, 6-2.
The Hawks are now 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the Empire 8. The Ducks are 10-9 and 7-0 in league play.
Hartwick travels to Utica on Tuesday, April 22. Match time is 4 p.m.
