Sami Capparelli scored four times for Hartwick.
LEWISBURG, PA-  Hartwick led 7-6 early in the third quarter of the quarterfinals of the CWPA Championship against Bucknell and pulled away with a 5-1 run to come out with 12-7 victory on Friday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. With the win, the Hawks advance to tomorrow night's semifinals against #9 Princeton.

Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) led Hartwick with five scores. Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) tallied a hat trick. Katie Ermakova (Columbia, MD) had a pair of goals. Stephanie El Safty (Sydney, Australia) and Devon Boyle (Sydney, Australia) both scored once. Michaela Davies (Cronulla, Australia) came up with nine saves in the cage.

The Hawks opened the contest with the game's first goal courtesy of Boyle at the 6:39 mark of the first period. The Bison knotted it up 21 seconds later but Hartwick responded on Capparelli's first score of the afternoon at 5:52. The two teams exchanged goals before the Hawks scored their fourth of the game with 1:07 left in frame to lead 4-2.

In the second period, Ermakova was granted a penalty shot and she converted to put Hartwick up 5-2 with just a tick under seven minutes. The two teams went back and forth as the Hawks went into halftime on top 6-4.

'Wick began the third stanza with a score to go up 7-4 at 7:41. Bucknell would start to edge closer with back-to-back goals and trailed 7-6 with 6:04 to play. Capparelli's second tally of the game with 4:45 showing on the clock gave the Hawks an 8-6 advantage. The score would remain that way for most of the remaining period until Dendy Young's penalty shot goal with 19 ticks remaining put 'Wick up 9-6.

The Bison chipped into Hartwick's lead with a goal from Julianne Valdes at 4:24 to make it 9-7. That was as close as the game would get as the Hawks pulled away with three goals in just over a two-minute span to claim the victory.

Valdes led the Bison with three scores. Mackenzie Ferry added a couple of scores. Tegan Stanbach and Hannah Sunday had one goal each. Rena Heim had five stops in goal.

The #3 seeded Hawks and #2 seeded Tigers meet at 6 p.m. in the semifinals for the second straight season.  Hartwick will look to avenge last year's heartbreaking 12-11 overtime defeat to Princeton.
