ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick and Indiana water polo teams squared off on Saturday night in front of a packed crowd at Moyer Pool. The two squads were neck and neck for over three quarters of play until the Hoosiers outscored the Hawks 4-2 in the final 6:48 of the game to win 12-9.

IU scored the game's first goal 45 seconds into the first quarter to lead 1-0. Hartwick quickly answered with a strike from Cayley Tonkin (Cape Town, South Africa) to even the contest up at 6:50. The two teams would exchange goals for over six minutes until the Hoosiers tacked on another score with four seconds remaining in the quarter to go up 5-3.

The Hawks narrowed the deficit to 5-4 on Lara Dendy Young's (Cape Town, South Africa) goal at 6:48 but the Hoosiers responded back to retain its two-goal advantage at 3:11. Tonkin's second tally of the night exactly a minute later brought the Hawks back to within a goal of tying it up as the half ended with IU ahead 6-5.

The third stanza was a defensive battle as neither team could find the cage for over four minutes of game time. The Hawks finally broke the scoreless drought as Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) scored to even things up at 6-6 at 3:51. The Hoosiers received goals from Rebecca Gerrity and Alexis Jones to go into the fourth period with an 8-6 lead.

Lara Dendy Young scored 10 seconds into the final quarter to make it 8-7 in favor of Indiana.  Shae Fournier scored for IU at 6:48 and then Allison Campbell scored at 4:51 to give the Hoosiers a 10-7 lead. Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) got 'Wick back to within two scores at 4:35 but Indiana scored back-to-back goals to take its biggest lead of the game, 12-8, at 3:07. The Hawks closed the gap with 1:42 to play on Britt Tait's (Kariong, Australia) score of a missed shot rebound from Jemma Dendy Young but it was close as the Hawks would get as the Hoosiers came out with the victory.

Tonkin and Lara Dendy Young both scored twice to lead Hartwick. Capparelli, Tait, Devon Boyle (Sydney, Australia), Jemma Dendy Young, and Katie Ermakova (Columbia, MD) all had one score apiece. Ermakova and Lara Dendy Young also had a pair of steals. Michaela Davies (Cronulla, Australia) turned away 11 shots in goal.

Indiana was led by Fournier's four goals. Gerrity and Campbell had a pair of goals each. Jones, Summer Creighton, Meghan Lappan and Shelby Taylor all scored once.
