ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick Hawks (3-2, 2-2 E8) returned to winning form today, defeating the Cardinals from St. John Fisher (0-4, 0-3) by a 6-3 final score. The Hawks were able to stop a two-match skid and draw even in the conference at 2-2.
The Hawks swept doubles play on the afternoon, highlighted by an 8-3 win at first doubles by seniors
Nicole Schepisi (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) and
Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili).
Hartwick also took doubles at second and third.
Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) combined for their fourth win of the season defeating their opponents, 8-5.
For the second consecutive conference match,
Michaela Finnegan (Cumberland, ME/Greely) and
Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) teamed up for a win, this time holding on for an 8-6 victory.
Hartwick was able to secure the win through convincing triumphs at 3rd and 5th singles.
Kelly Napolitano continues her successful freshman campaign as she dropped only one game in a rout of her opponent, 6-1, 6-0.
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) also had a convincing win at 5th singles, winning over her opponent 6-1, 6-4.
Senior
Kristen Napolitano, for the second straight day, was pushed to a third-set tiebreaker. Napolitano was on the winning side today defeating her opponent 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 10-7 in a closely contested match.
The Hawks return to Empire 8 competition on the road versus Nazareth on Saturday.
