TROY, NY – Hartwick women's tennis won four of six singles and two of three doubles matches on Thursday as the Hawks opened their 2014 season with a 6-3 victory over The Sage Colleges in Troy.
Sisters
Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) combined for an 8-2 rout at second doubles over Sage's Lauren Bendall and Katie Schultz to begin the day.
Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and
Anna Van Allsburg (Prides Crossing, MA/Spring Ridge Academy) then earned an 8-5 win in the third flight over Alex Faas and Lindsey Tolman as 'Wick jumped out to a 2-1 advantage.
Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia), the Napolitano sisters, and
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) each made quick work of their opponents in singles play as they combined to drop just nine games.
Schepisi, at second singles, defeated Erin Duffy 6-1, 6-4.
Kelly Napolitano dropped only two games, 6-1, 6-1, against Bendall at third singles.
Kristen Napolitano didn't drop a game at the fifth flight against Faas, 6-0, 6-0. O'Brien, playing at sixth singles, beat Tolman 6-2, 6-0.
The Hawks take their 1-0 overall record and jump right into Empire 8 Conference play this weekend. 'Wick plays host to Houghton College on Saturday afternoon and the Hawks take a trip to New Jersey to face Stevens on Sunday.
