LEWISBURG, PA – Hartwick water polo split two CWPA matches at Bucknell University on Saturday, defeating George Washington 14-9 and then falling by a count of 9-4 to nationally 11
th ranked Princeton. 'Wick is now 8-11 overall and 3-1 in the CWPA.
Against the Colonials,
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT) had a hand in eight of the Hawks' 14 goals on the day and
Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand) was involved with six 'Wick scores.
Hartwick took control of the game in the second quarter. The Hawks out-scored GW 3-1 in the period to take a 7-4 lead after a 3-3 tie after one quarter.
The lead was extended to four, 11-7, as the Hawks scored four of the third quarter's seven goals. They closed out the win, out-scoring the Colonials 3-2 in the final frame for the 14-9 win.
Mihajlovik led Hartwick with five tallies and three assists. McKenty added a goal and five helpers.
Brittany Tait (Kariong, Australia) and
Blanca Anton Cuesta (Madrid, Spain) each picked up three goals for the Hawks.
Kylie Traube (Johannesburg, South Africa) and
Rebecca Armstrong (Pasadena, CA) also found the net for 'Wick.
Michaela Davies (Cronulla, Australia) and
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA) played in goal for the Hawks. Davies made six saves in 26 minutes of action. Santos made two stops in six minutes between the pipes.
In the Hawks' second match, Hartwick and Princeton each scored twice in the first quarter for a 2-2 stalemate after eight minutes. The Tigers seized control in the second as they out-scored the Hawks 5-1 for a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Scoring was limited in the second half with both teams registering one goal in the third quarter. The Tigers tallied the lone goal of the fourth in the 9-4 victory.
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary) was Hartwick's top scorer in the match with three goals. She added one assist. Mihajlovik recored the other 'Wick score. Anton Cuesta also had an assist.
Davies played all 32 minutes in goal. She made 10 saves, grabbed two steals, and picked up an assist.
Hartwick next plays tomorrow in its third conference match of the weekend. The Hawks play Harvard at 2:20 p.m.
