ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick water polo strung together three straight wins on Saturday at Moyer Pool. The Hawks defeated Villanova 18-10, Siena 21-8, and finally Brown 13-11 to improve to 11-15 overall on the year.
           
Against Villanova, the Hawks fell behind by two-goal deficits twice in the opening period before Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary) and Brittany Tait (Kariong, Australia) tallied late in the quarter for a 3-3 tie after eight minutes.
           
Hartwick took command in the second quarter as it tallied seven times to the Wildcats' two for a 10-5 advantage at halftime. Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT) and Polak each scored twice in the period to pace 'Wick.
           
The lead was pushed to seven early in the third, 12-5, but Villanova would net five of the next six goals to make the score 13-10 headed into the final period of play.
           
The Hawks would put away the Cats in the fourth as they outscored them by a 5-0 margin for the 18-10 victory.
           
Polak led 'Wick with five goals in the contest. Mihajlovik added four goals and Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand) and Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) each added two scores.
           
Tait, Rebecca Armstrong (Pasadena, CA), Blanca Anton Cuesta (Madrid, Spain), and Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia) finished with one goal.
           
Against Siena, six Hawks had at least two goals. Mihajlovik led the way with three goals. Armstrong, Anton Cuesta, Brennan, McKenty, and Dendy Young each registered a pair of goals.
           
Hartwick blanked the Saints in the opening period, 5-0. Mihajlovik scored two of the five 'Wick scores. The advantage was extended to seven in the second as 'Wick scored four of six goals in the period for a 9-2 edge.
           
Six goals in the third period led to a huge 15-3 lead for the Hawks and they would emerge with the 18-7 win.
           
Kylie Traube (Johannesburg, South Africa), Natalie May (Huntington Beach, CA), Tait, and Polak also scored for 'Wick in the game.
           
In the Hartwick's final game, the Hawks fell behind 3-1 after the first period of play. They rallied to take a 6-4 lead, however, before the Bears scored the final two goals of the half and the game was a 6-6 deadlock at the break.
           
'Wick netted three of the first four goals of the third quarter to grab a 10-7 advantage, but again the Bears put two into the Hawks' net and it was a one-goal, 10-9, lead for the hosts with one period left to play.
           
The two teams traded goals before Anton Cuesta made it 12-10 Hartwick with 4:18 remaining in the contest. Brown would get one back with 3:26 left but Mihajlovik scored her third of the game with 3:01 showing on the clock and the Hawks kept the Bears from scoring the rest of the way in the 13-11 victory.
             
Anton Cuesta torched the nets with six goals for the Hawks. Mihajlovik finished with three tallies. Polak and Tait each finished with two scores.
           
The day served as Hartwick Senior Day. Prior to the Brown game, Hartwick seniors Traube, Dendy Young, and Guia Carlini (Camogli, Italy) were recognized for their accomplishments to the program.
