DELHI, NY – The Hartwick men's tennis team lost by a count of 5-4 to Elmira College on Tuesday at the Dome on the campus of SUNY Delhi. The match was the season opener for the Hawks. The Soaring Eagles improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8.
Seniors
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) and
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) registered a victory at first doubles. The duo defeated Elmira's Keith Bujak and Satchal Waters by a final score of 8-5.
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) and
Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota) won by forfeit in third doubles.
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and Coppola also won by forfeit in 5
th and 6
th singles, respectively.
Freshman
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) was narrowly defeated at first singles in his first collegiate match. He fell to Elmira's Bujak, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Hartwick returns to action on Friday, April 3 when it takes on St. John Fisher in Pittsford at 5 p.m.
