BLOOMINGTON, IN – Hartwick water polo fell by a margin of 11-6 on Saturday at Indiana University and then to the host Hoosiers, 15-9. The Hawks are now 8-14 overall and 3-4 in the CWPA.
Sophomore
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary) and freshman
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT) scored twice to lead the Hartwick offense against Michigan.
The Hawks fell behind 2-0 in the first quarter before
Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) tallied in her first game this season. The Hawks were within one twice in the second quarter, including after a Polak tally to close the half and they trailed 4-3 at the intermission.
The Wolverines took control in the third quarter, out-scoring the Hawks 4-1 to take an 8-4 lead after three quarters. They scored three of the fourth quarter's four goals to secure the final result.
Brittany Tait (Kariong, Australia) also registered a goal on the day for the Hawks.
Against the #16 Hoosiers, a 5-2 run in the first and second quarters turned a 3-2 lead into an 8-3 advantage for IU. A Dendy Young goal got the Hawks to within three early in the third quarter but Indiana out-scored the Hawks 7-4 the rest of the way.
Mihajlovik scored four goals for 'Wick in the match.
Rebecca Armstrong (Pasadena, CA) added two scores. Anton Cuesta, Tait and Dendy Young finished with one goal each.
Hartwick plays #5 UC Irvine at 10 a.m. Sunday.
