ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Houghton College swept doubles play and won four of six singles matches in a 7-2 victory over Hartwick's men's tennis team on Saturday in an Empire 8 match played at SUNY Oneonta's Heissan Courts.
The Hawks are now 0-4 on the season. The Highlanders improve to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.
'Wick's
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) each won singles matches for the Hawks in the top two flights. Talbot defeated Houghton's Brennan Campbell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. It marked his first win at Hartwick. Redder improved to 2-2 in singles this season. He won his second singles match over Jordan Crouch, 6-3, 3-6, and 10-7 in a super-tie breaker.
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) came close to his third win of the campaign in fifth singles. He took the first set against Connor Barnes by a count of 6-1. Barnes forced a third set after winning the second 6-3. He then won 10 of 11 points in the super-tie breaker for the win.
Hartwick plays again tomorrow at Oswego State. The Hawks and Lakers begin play at 1 p.m.
