ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's water polo team extended its winning streak to five games with an 11-3 romp over Marist College in Sunday's regular season finale at the Sally Griffith Herbert '88 Aquatic Center's Moyer Pool. The win avenged a 10-3 loss to the Red Foxes in their last meeting earlier this season. The Hawks are now 18-18 on the season.
Hartwick controlled the opening half as it led 6-0 after 16 minutes.
Blanca Anton Cuesta (Madrid, Spain) opened the scoring 35 seconds into the game with her 55
th tally of the season for a 1-0 Hartwick lead.
Zsofia Polak's (Dunaujvaros, Hungary) 56
th goal of the year at 3:28 gave the Hawks a 2-0 advantage after one period of play.
In the second quarter,
Lara Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) scored twice with
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT) and
Brittany Tait (Kariong, Australia) each adding a goal for a 6-0 lead at the half.
The Red Foxes got on the scoreboard on a penalty shot from Amanda Amorosa 1:20 in to the third period. Polak answered for 'Wick with 1:10 left and the Hawks held a 7-1 lead after three quarters.
In the fourth, the Hawks out-scored Marist by a count of 4-2 to close out the win. Polak, Anton Cuesta, Tait, and
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia) registered the Hartwick goals. Goalkeeper
Michaela Davies (Cronulla, Australia) played all 32 minutes in cage to earn the win. She made 11 saves in the contest.
With the win today, the Hawks improve to 28-2 all-time against the Red Foxes. The Hawks will now await the seeding announcement for the upcoming CWPA Championships, which began April 24 at Princeton.
