ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick men's tennis won its second consecutive match on Wednesday with an 8-1 victory over Utica College. The Hawks swept all three doubles match and took five of six singles matches on the day. The Hawks improve to 2-4 overall and pick up their first Empire 8 Conference win.
A pair of Hartwick doubles teams swept their UC opponents 8-0.
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) and
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) won their match at first doubles along with
Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota) and
Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) at third doubles.
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) also were victorious at second doubles by a final count of 8-3.
In singles play, Talbot and
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) did not drop a game in their victories. Talbot defeated Dominick Trimarchi at first singles, 6-0, 6-0. Monastoque improved to 4-2 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Joe Castellitto in the fifth flight.
Gilbraith won his second straight match at third singles with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over UC's Ryan Valle. Brown earned a win at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1, against Jacob Nigolian.
Braue notched his first victory of the season at sixth singles. He defeated Corey Service 6-1, 6-0.
Hartwick next plays on Saturday, April 18. The Hawks will host Stevens at Hartwick Courts beginning at 10 a.m.
