ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick men's tennis was defeated by a final score of 9-0 on Saturday at Hartwick Courts. With the result, the Hawks slip to 4-6 overall, and 1-6 in the Empire 8. Ithaca ups its season record to 7-7-1 and 6-1 in league play.
Hartwick's
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) took four games off their Ithaca counterparts at the second doubles flight. They fell to Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos and Chris Hayes, 8-4.
In singles play, senior
Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota) was the lone Hawk to take a set off the Bombers. In his match against Charlie Vaca in the sixth flight, Coppola recovered from an 0-6 first set to win the second set, 6-4. Vaca outlasted Coppola in the super-tie break, 10-4.
Redder also won four games at second singles. He dropped his match to Viguie-Ramos, 6-1, 6-3.
The Hawks close out their conference schedule tomorrow. They play at Alfred University beginning at 1 p.m.
