PITTSFORD, NY – Hartwick took two singles matches and one doubles match on Friday evening but it wasn't enough as the Hawks' men's tennis team fell to host St. John Fisher by a final count of 6-3.
With the loss, 'Wick fell to 0-2 on the season. The Cardinals improve to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8 Conference.
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) were victorious in singles matches for Hartwick. Brown competed at fourth singles and earned a straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3 win over Fisher's Adam Moran. Monastoque won in fifth singles against Vichaka Khoy, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles play, senior
Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota) and sophomore
Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) won in the third flight by defeating Khoy and Joseph Dora eight games to five.
Hartwick looks for its first season win tomorrow as it stays in E8 competition. The Hawks face Nazareth at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Rochester.
