HOUGHTON, NY - The Hartwick Hawks (3-0, 2-0 E8) traveled to Houghton College to face the Highlanders in a battle of unbeaten teams on Saturday. The Hawks battled past Houghton winning 6-3, to remain undefeated in conference play and to improve to 3-0 overall for the first time since the 2001 season.
Today's win against Houghton College was led by reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week,
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) who remains undefeated in the 2015 campaign. Napolitano improves to 3-0 after a comeback victory at third singles, outlasting Laura Jacuzzo 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Napolitano teamed up with fellow sophomore
Anna Van Allsburg (Prides Crossing, MA/Spring Ridge Academy) for the first time this season at second doubles with a comfortable 8-3 victory.
Hartwick earned another win in doubles with
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) who remain unbeaten with a comeback victory at third doubles. The pair was down 1-6 early in the match, but was able to prevail 9-7. O'Brien also earned her first conference win of the season at fifth singles, 6-2, 7-5 over Tera Anderson.
Hartwick's top singles player,
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman), collected her first conference win as a Hawk topping Bethany Chesebro, 7-5, 6-2. Freshman
Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) joined her in the win column with a comfortable victory at second singles, 6-2, 6-4.
The Hawks return to conference play as they look to remain unbeaten with a win against Alfred University
tomorrow on the road.
