ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick Hawks (7-0, 4-0) remain undefeated on the season as they dismantled Utica College this afternoon, 9-0. The Hawks only dropped 10 total games and with the victory have set a program record for the best start to a season. The 4-0 conference start also puts Hartwick atop of the Empire 8 standings along with Ithaca College.
The Hawks dominated doubles play only dropping three games. Doubles was highlighted by a 8-0 victory from
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) at the third doubles position.
The sophomore tandem of
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and
Anna Van Allsburg (Prides Crossing, MA/Spring Ridge Academy) remain undefeated at second doubles winning 8-2.
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) improve to 4-3 after securing an 8-1 victory at first doubles.
Hartwick was just as dominant in singles on the afternoon with three matches finishing 6-0, 6-0; including Rice at first singles, O'Brien at fifth singles and
Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic) at sixth singles.
Napolitano continues to roll in 2015 with her seventh consecutive victory at third singles with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. The other wins came from Natoli and Van Allsburg to cap Hartwick's third 9-0 victory of the season.
The Hawks look to expand on their historic run and stay in first place in the Empire 8 as they visit conference rival St. John Fisher
this Saturday.
