ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick Hawks (1-0, 0-0) started their 2015 campaign with a 9-0 rout over the visiting Gators of The Sage Colleges (0-1). The Hawks only dropped one set as they cruised to victory in their opening match of the season.
Sophomore
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) led the Hawks today only dropping one total game in her two matches. Napolitano blanked her opponent at the third singles position, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed up with freshman
Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic) at second doubles to a dominating 8-1 victory. Ryan only dropped one game in singles at the sixth position, 6-1, 6-0.
Four new Hawks highlighted this evening's action all picking up two victories in the win. Other newcomers included sophomore
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman), who stormed back in her victory at the top singles spot to win 4-6, 6-1 (10-1). Freshman
Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) breezed by her opponent at second singles, 6-0, 6-1. The pair also grabbed an 8-6 victory at first doubles.
Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham Wading River) rounded out the batch of newcomers winning at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-1. She teamed up with junior
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt-Hills Ballston Lake) with another runaway victory at third doubles, winning 8-0.
The Hawks return to action
on Saturday as they open up Empire 8 play at home against Elmira.
