HOBOKEN, NJ – At the Stevens Tennis Courts, the Hartwick women's tennis team endured its second loss of the season against Empire 8 member, Stevens, 8-1. The lone point was earned at no. 3 singles by third-year
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai), 6-2, 0-6, 6-3. With the setback, Hartwick sits at 7-2 (4-2 E8) while Stevens improves to 7-1 (6-1 E8).
The duo of Napolitiano and
Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic) came the closest to picking up a doubles point. As the last match to finish, Sydney Zortic and Katrina Guido got by the no. 2 pair, 8-5.
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) fell in just her second singles match of the season. At the #1 flight, Alexis Connor eked out the 6-4, 6-0 victory over Rice to add to her team's point total.
Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) at the second flight and
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) at five, both competed in tiebreakers.
Entering today, Natoli was 2-1 in the extra round while O'Brien split hers, 1-1. Guido outlasted Natoli, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 while Jillian Morneau picked up the win at no. 5, 7-5, 2-6, 11-9.
Hartwick looks to local rival, Oneonta, next on October 4
