Water Polo Knocks Off #4 Hawai'i; Hawks Sweep at Brown Invite

PROVIDENCE, RI – No. 17 Hartwick topped No. 4 Hawaii 11-7 on the second day of competition at the Brown University Invite on Sunday. It is the highest ranked opponent the Hawks have beaten in program history. 'Wick also swept on the weekend with victories over Brown (16-5), No. 16 Wagner (13-5), and St. Francis (19-9).  The Hawks are victors in their last five matches.
                       
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary/Rudas HS) registered seven goals and three assists against the host Bears in the Hawks' first game of the weekend. Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia/St. Clares College) added three tallies. Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand/Takapuna Grammar School) and Maria Moya (Madrid, Spain/Ortega Y Gasset) each netted two goals. Brittany Tait (Kariong, Australia/Harry Kendall HS) and Charlotte Cottle (Blakehurst, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies College) each scored once. Michaela Davies (Cronulla, Australia/Kirawee HS) made six saves in goal.
                       
Against Wagner, Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT/Silverthorn Collegiate Institute) paced the Hawks with four tallies. Polak and Moya scored three goals apiece, and Cottle, Tait, and Brennan chipped in with a goal each. Brennan and McKenty each registered four assists. Davies had 13 saves in the contest.
                       
Mihajlovik led the Hawks again in the St. Francis game with six goals. Polak, Brennan, and Tait registered three goals apiece. Cottle, McKenty, and Sarah Lewis (La Jolla, CA/Cathedral Catholic HS) each added one goal. Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison HS) and Sabrina Hartwell (Ann Arbor, MI/Skyline HS) combined for 10 saves in net.
                       
Polak and Mihajlovic combined for nine goals against Hawai'i. Polak scored five times with Mihajlovic adding four tallies.
                       
McKenty and Natalie May (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison HS) each scored once. Davies stopped 14 shots. The victory for the Hawks is their first over the Rainbow Wahine in program history (1-4).
                       
Hartwick has 20 days before its next game. The Hawks host their own invitational beginning on February 27 with a game against St.Francis.
