CAMBRIDGE, MA – The No. 20 Hartwick water polo team rallied to tie the game following a 10-7 deficit, but the host Crimson got the winner with 1:17 left to secure an 11-10 victory.
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary/Rudas HS) scored twice for the Hawks in a 1:31 span to tie the game at 10-10 with 1:32 left to play. Harvard would answer 15 seconds later to push it ahead for good.
The Hawks fell behind 4-1 after the opening period. Polak registered her first of three scores on the day in the period. 'Wick trimmed the gap to two twice in the second quarter and the Hawks trailed 6-4 at halftime.
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia/St. Clares College),
Maria Moya (Madrid, Spain/Ortega Y Gasset), and
Brittany Tait (Kariong, Australia/Harry Kendall HS) scored goals in the quarter.
The hosts out-scored 'Wick 4-3 in the third period for a 10-7 edge.
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT/Silverthorn Collegiate Inst.) tallied twice for the Hawks with Brennan also scoring.
Brennan scored her third of the game at 4:37 of the fourth to cut the deficit to two, 10-8. Polak then scored at 3:03 and again at 1:32 to even the score before the Crimson broke the tie.
Hartwick (13-8) is headed to Greece for the next week before they next play on Saturday, April 9 against Bucknell and George Washington. The games mark two of six games in a row against CWPA opposition to close the regular season.
