HOUGHTON, NY – Hartwick's men's tennis fell to host Houghton College on Saturday 7-2 in an Empire 8 Conference match.
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) would lead the Hawks on the day with wins at both singles and doubles.
Talbot and
Krishna Patel (Brunswick, ME/Pine Tree Academy) secured a victory at first doubles against Chase Rangel and Jordan Crouch. The Hartwick pair won the match 8-6 and the Hawks trailed 2-1 heading into the singles matches.
Talbot would earn a victory in the second singles flight. He won in straight sets against Crouch, 6-2, 6-3 to improve to 4-4 on the season.
Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) would force a second set tie-breaker in his fifth singles match against Bjorn Webb. After falling in the first set 6-2, Braue would be edged out 9-7 in the tie-break giving Bjorn the match.
The loss drops the Hawks' record to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the Empire 8. The Highlanders improve to 9-6 and 4-2 in the league.
Hartwick is back in action tomorrow in another Empire 8 match. The Hawks travel to Elmira College for a 1 p.m. start time.
