ONEONTA, NY – On Wednesday afternoon, the Hartwick women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season to conference opponent, Ithaca College, 9-0, at the Hartwick Courts. In both singles and doubles,
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) came the closest to defeating her respective opponents. At no. 3 singles, the junior picked up two games in the first set and three in the second set. With
Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic), the duo only fell by a margin of two. The setback, sees the Hawks at 7-1 (4-1 Empire 8) while the Bombers improve to 5-0 (5-0 Empire 8).
Ithaca grabbed first and third doubles by the respective scores of 8-1 and 8-0.
For singles, the first match to conclude came at the fifth showing to the credit of Kathryn Shaffer over
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake).
This was followed up at no. 1 by Haley Kusak over
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) to grant the Bombers the insurmountable lead.
Next, Hartwick travels to Hoboken, NJ on Sunday, October 2
nd to take on the Stevens Ducks. First serve is set for noon.
